Witness Statement added Victim info Started by: Pharoah on Jul 12, '12 02:49

I checked every thread I could find on the subject of Witness Statements before I decided to post this one.

I don't assume to know how every family formats or sends their WS's, but I think my suggestion may be win win for all.

There is nothing more annoying than getting a WS when you are in the middle of something else. You rush to copy the 60 second list so that you can descramble the name as soon as you have a spare minute. The shooter though, may not be that important right away unless of course the victim (which is not scrambled so extra info should not be a problem) is -48, or sponsored etc.

Would it be possible to add simply the status (IA, MIA, or RIA), and the Sponsor/Family in case they have one? Since some witness statements would of course be more crucial to unscramble the hitter right away if the victim was -48, or sponsored, this small bit of extra info could save precious seconds in game, without giving anyone an unfair advantage.

If this was already suggested, it must have been underneath something other than "Witness Statements". Thank you in advance for your time.

what i normally do is just click obits and hit the dead person's name. If it says MIA/RIA/untagged then i take me sweet time. If it's ultra important I'd send it out ASAP and then try to scramble it after i sent it. It always helps to have another set of eyes looking...

Is there any reason they shouldn't add it to the events log WS, since it will be the same for everyone and you need not descramble the victims name, it would still save you seconds, especially if you are lagging with multiple tabs open. I usually drop everything to do them just in case, or at least copy and paste the 60 second list so I can decode the shooter later. I really can't see how it could hurt. The information is available anyway, this would just eliminate a step for everyone.

Perhaps the victim's name could hyperlink to their profile? That way you would only need to quickly check the profile to ascertain whether they are worth spending time over.

Thats a perfectly perfect compromise, I'd take that. (smiles)

aye either one works

I'm keen to see this as well - it's just another little efficiency that would be good to have in the game.

Well Well Grin. Who woke you from your slumber?

I would whole heartedly agree with your compromise, I think a hyperlink on the victims name would be a splendid idea. Thank you Pharoah for the original suggestion, hopefully we get to see some PC folk agreeing with this and moving it forward.

Thank you for the support Boss. Your stamp of approval is a definit boost, I'm sure. (smiles)

I'm a little undecided about this topic if I'm honest. While I know, Pharaoh that this is obviously not your case, I can't help but think that this will help more the lazy ones then the hard workers.

I'm definitely against adding extra information into the WS, that just really makes it too easy and is completely unnecessary. It's not hard at all to check who the victims are, however, the willingness of members in checking makes a huge difference for families.

Through the years playing this game, it was easy to notice that a good percentage of players do not pay attention to the WS they are getting, based on simple laziness of checking and assumption that is never a juicy WS anyway. That attitude has a certain effect in the game, sometimes random wackers get away with it because of this way of acting. Sometimes pro wackers are never caught because of the same behavior.

I don't see any reasons to be changing and making it easier for those people, after all, how long does it take to do a search, a couple seconds. Small things are the things that makes the difference between good and lazy players and those things can give the good ones a huge advantage at certain times.

Now, the idea of adding a hyper link, here is what I'm thinking. Does saving a few seconds for those who always check WS overcomes the advantage they are given by the ones who will never check the WS if there is no hyper link?

I'm leaning towards thinking its not worth it that I as a player would like to keep that advantage. But I think I will let my ideas open about this for the time being and be open for more discussion before making a decision on whether to sponsor it or not.

I understand the point about taking a small advantage from the hard workers and making life easier for the lazy ones. However, I believe the real work with the WS lies in unscrambling the shooter's name and not in finding the victim.

I especially have mobile users in mind here. Searching for a name on a mobile phone is much more inconvenient than it is on a PC, even if you go through the obits. If you could just click the link to the victim's profile, you would be able to decide whether it's something important or can wait and be done later in more comfortable conditions.

This is why I do like the idea of adding a hyperlink to the victim's name.

I will wait for some more arguments on both sides, but right now I'm leaning towards sponsoring this idea, in the hyperlink variation.

I agree with tita that adding things to the WS in the personals will only serve to make the games easier for the lazy ones, which is something I don't agree with. However, as Grin and Tosca pointed out a simple compromise allowing there to be a hyperlink to the name would be perfect as it simply eliminates a step of having to go through obits to find the person to bring up the profile.

Report Post Tip

Ok, I understand completely what you are saying. I would agree of course if I had asked the same question for putting more info about the shooter, which of course can be a bit time consuming. I wouldn't dream of making the game easier for lazy people.

I calculate (roughly) that the hyperlink would shave about 2 or 3 seconds (depending on connection speeds and a persons mouse dexterity), instead of bringing obits up or searching users. Now since everyone will benefit, why punish the hard workers because the lazy people would benefit as well? Do you not agree though, that the victims info being more accessable would actually be more beneficial to the people that would be willing to go the extra mile in the first place?

The lazy people probably would'nt take the time to Pre-WS a witness statement on a "sketchy" death in the first place. They would most likely still put it off, or just sell to the warden and not be bothered to help their crew. I hope I am not rambling, but I still think the "hyperlink" was a great compromise. I hope you all keep considering this.

PS: just remember, the whole idea of checking victims info first is to send the pre-ws in case the death was "sketchy". Would the lazy person really take that extra step?

Im liking the Hyperlink idea for the same reason Pharoah stated.

I'm sponsoring this with a view to it being tweaked by the PC into something workable.

As a regular user of a mobile phone i have to say the idea of a hyperlink would be a good thing. I don't know about others but while on my phone there are times i log in, sell drugs and if DL is blinking then have a look to see what it is. If it is a w/s then i would forget about them till i get home and am on the pc as it can be a real pain in the ass and time consuming when on a phone as i may litterally only be on for a couple of minutes.

Figuring out which way to add information best will take some finagling, but I like the basic idea either way. Sponsored.
